Normally garlic bread calls for dried parsley. Of course the one ingredient I didn’t have on my massive spice rack was parsley, so I winged it and this turned out to be the best garlic bread I’ve ever had! Serve with a big salad or bowl of pasta.
What You’ll Need:
- One loaf of fresh French Bread
- 4 tbsp Earth Balance buttery spread
- 1/4 tsp dried basil
- 1/4 tsp dried chives
- 1/4 tsp nutritional yeast
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
To Make:
Pre-heat oven at 425 degrees. Slice the fresh baguette down the middle and spread it open on a cookie sheet. Spread 2 tbsp Earth Balance buttery spread evenly on each side.
In a small bowl, mix dried basil, dried chives, nutritional yeast, garlic powder and salt.
Sprinkle the mixture evenly over both loaves. Bake in the oven for 15 minutes. Enjoy!
Some of the best things happen out of “winging it”. I’ve never tried nutritional yeast but from what I’ve read it’s similar to parmesan in flavour which I bet would be a great addition to garlic bread. I love reading about new food experiments and adventures. This post would make a great submission to Our Growing Edge this month. It is a monthly event celebrating new food experiences. Submission deadline is at the end of the month. More info here: http://bunnyeatsdesign.com/our-growing-edge/
