About

Welcome to Eat Local. Live Simple.

A little about myself: My name is Kris. I’m 28. I live in California (but I’m from the midwest originally). Sustainability is my jam and I’m a 2013 graduate of the Climate Reality Leadership Program (trained by Mr. Al Gore himself). I learned how to cook from my mother at a young age and I’ve always been her sous-chef (and still am today when I visit home- she is the most fantastic cook out there in my opinion and even placed top 5 nationwide in Good Morning America’s pie contest by Emeril Lagasse and recently became a finalist in the 2014 Pillsbury Bake-Off!). Plant-based cooking has been a huge hobby of mine for several years now so I decided to start a cooking blog to share recipes and spread the plant-based love: all recipes and photographs are created by me. My goal is to cook with locally-sourced ingredients as much as possible, filling my plates with healthy, organic plant-based deliciousness.

Eat Local. Live Simple.

People don’t often think about where their food comes from. Did you know a lot of the fruits and vegetables at the grocery store are shipped several hundred (or thousand) miles? That those beautiful conventional bell peppers and apples are covered in wax? How about that bagged lettuce and other vegetables are gassed to preserve them? (Yep, even the organic). No thank you. There’s something very beautiful about food going straight from the farm to the consumer. First off- it’s the freshest food you’ll find. I love when I talk to a farmer and say “how do they taste?” and he/she responds “they were just picked yesterday!” How cool is that?! It’s also pretty darn cool that we can ask them how the crops were harvested (organic, with pesticides or chemicals, etc.) In today’s world, there are some pretty scary pesticides, herbicides, hormones and antibiotics used to raise both produce and animals. Education is everything- know where your food comes from.

Live Simple implies living a more simple, sustainable life. I will be sharing beauty tips (heat-free hair styling, anyone?), shopping tips, travel tips and more.

If you’d like updates when I post, please sign up to follow my blog. I promise I won’t flood your inbox (I post at most once a day but usually only a few times a week, depending on how busy I am- I work full time!)

Have a great day 🙂

Peace & love,

Kris

Hey there Kris! I just stumbled upon your blog and enjoyed reading your about page. My husband and I have been following a plant-based diet for two years and we love it. After eating this way for awhile, we watched the movie, Vegucated, which prompted us to adopt a vegan lifestyle as well. That’s exciting that you’re writing a cookbook – more power to you chica! Celeste 🙂

Celeste- thank you so much for your kind words and for stopping by my blog. I love the title of your blog! Can’t wait to read it (just followed). I also live a vegan lifestyle and I honestly can say I feel much healthier (plus people think I’m 16 years old when I’m almost 28 so that’s a good sign ha 😉 I’ve been meaning to watch Vegucated, I hear it’s a great documentary- I’ll have to bump it up on my queue! xoxo Kris

Thank you Derek! I have used a variety of different themes, most recently I tried Gallery but I didn’t like that my posts were staggered. This way people can see the photos and click on what they want to see without scrolling too. So far I love this theme! It’s called Puzzle.

I agree that having the pictures lined up says so much with so little space. I also like having side bars, though, to help navigate easily to specific recipe types, etc. since I am aiming to build a kind of recipe book for myself and others. Hope you had a nice Fourth and can still hear okay!
        Best,
        D

Hi K, I love your ideas here. One of my long-term goals is to have a plot where I can grow most of my own food and even take some to market. It is a pipe dream, but maybe some day ^.^
